There are adverse consequences of pancreatic cancer and most medical professionals in the 21st century are working hard to improve the management of this disease. The lethality of this disease is evident from the survival rate figures, which vary from seven to eight percent. An estimated 90% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer are killed. The diagnosis of this lethal disease is typically made at stages at which invasion of the adjacent vessel occurs. However, radical resection can cure some patients who exhibit adjacent vessel invasion, and this depends on the accuracy of the resection judgment of these patients. The decisions regarding resection of patients are usually made on the basis of image studies. The effect is contrary to the decisions involved in computer tomography, whose grading system is usually formulated by different radiologists. The resultant feature is that different outcomes will be experienced because of the different experiences of the radiologist, from which they base their formulation on during the grading process. The computed tomography grading systems concentrate their focus on evaluating the vessel invasion. This consequently reduces the outcome that is witnessed when evaluating the patient.
It is critical to understand that the criteria for accessing the resection processes bears consistency but remains questionable. Some of the criteria may be helpful from a clinical point of view, but they remain controversial in the results they post. Two major questions can be deduced from this controversy, how will radiologists work out the issue of controversy to ensure the criteria used in resection are reliable? How can the high death rate of pancreatic cancer patients be reduced to a relatively low percentage? Pancreatic cancer requires quick medical attention for a patient to have any survival chances.
