Euthanasia and The Sin of Suicide
The use, maluse or misuse of medicines and substances may be permitted. The use of drugs and substances shall apply to the proper consumption and intent in accordance with the prescription issued. It has no impact on the consumer. If a person takes a medicine or drug for reasons other than those envisaged, this implies abuse and can have an impact on the health and social life of the patient. Misuse involves taking an overdose of medications, failing to take a dose, quitting the medication without consulting the doctor, and taking a dose of a mate. Abuse of drugs and substances is when they are used to achieve a different objective than the intended purpose. It ‘get high,’ exceeding a recommended dose to achieve a certain feeling, tolerance and repeated used despite noticeable negative effects (Graves, 2010).
There are various types of drugs that are abused and misused. Examples include alcohol, stimulants, tobacco, and marijuana. Most people take alcoholic drinks, and when taken in excess and for a long time, the user becomes an addict. Abuse of alcohol has health effects like enlargement of the heart, inflammation of the pancreas and liver cirrhosis. Stimulants are medical drugs that are used to increase body activities. Commonly abused stimulants are cocaine and amphetamines (Schwartzenberger, 2007). Effects of these drugs include mood elevation, severe depression, irritability and anxiety and prolonged use can cause brain damage.
Tobacco is another widely abused substance. The substance can be smoked, chewed, snorted or vaporized. The common forms of tobacco include cigars, smokeless tobacco, and cigarettes. This substance can cause hypertension, lung cancer, oral cancer, leukaemia and heart disease. Lastly, Marijuana can also be smoked or eaten. Common effects of Marijuana abuse include impaired coordination and memory loss. It also increases the risk of progressing to other dangerous drugs like cocaine and heroin (Schwartzenberger, 2007).
