Scientific and Biblical Apocalypse

One of the greatest discussions that have remained a mystery and subject of great debate is the understanding of the principle of the scientific and biblical apocalypse. The Bible, and more specifically the Book of Revelation has a full description of the possible world-ending events and it is common to find that Christian leaders refer to it as a period of urgency (Himmelfarb 3). Interestingly, the scientific community has also cited similar effects with popular scientists leading the belief of an impending doom. Considering the ideas cited in the debate, it is affirmed that the prediction of a scientific apocalypse is irreconcilable to the divine spiritual prophecy of Revelations.

There are varied ways that both sides have tried to illustrate the relevance in their argument. The Biblical prophecy and analysis of the subject consider the revolutionary traditions that were ancillary to themselves. The Biblical justification is based on the understanding that an external authority is likely to lay out a schema that will eventually manifest as a symbol of actuality (Barr 306). Meanwhile, it is supposed that the scientific understanding of the apocalypse has, however, been founded on earthly factors such as overpopulation and pollution where it is believed that with excesses of each, the planet will become unsustainable and resources will be depleted and the apocalypse will be inevitable.

However, it must be emphasized that while both viewpoints appear to be logical, it is unlikely that they are both realistic. In fact, it has been noted that people are already confusing both arguments and are trying to substitute one for another. According to Kovel, “the prophecy should not be confused with prediction. To the extent prophecy becomes predictive, it descends onto magical thinking and superstition” (1). It thus follows that the understanding of the apocalypse has made many scientists to draw evidence from the Big Bang Theory. It thus follows that the Biblical interpretation is less convincing compared to the evidence tabled by the scientists describing the fate of the world and the doom in everything on earth.

It is, however, important to consider that the opposing view is also strong and conceivable enough to warrant a strong argument from the basis that the Biblical Apocalypse perceived the end-time more realistically. The idea of the apocalypse is described to be a Greek word meaning the inner, imaginative truth that is critical for the visionary character (Cox and Worthington 167). From this bass, it is understood that the opposing viewpoint to warrant the argument by Bible is likely to be true. However, it is must to be noted that even with the Biblical Prophecy of the Apocalypse seemingly looking to be true, the arguments highlighted by the scientists is more accurate. The basis where the Bible seems to focus on a divine power that cannot be substantiated is different from the feeling one gets when science argues the issue in terms of population and pollution because these are elements that people relate with on the planet (Water et al. 6).

In summary, it is critical to highlight that the subject of the Apocalypse has drawn the interest of both religious people and scientists. However, considering the evidence tabled from the understanding of the scientific apocalypse in the context of pollution and overpopulation, it is argued that science offers a more accurate argument.
