Socially Responsible Mutual Fund Investment
Socially responsible investing is that the investment that shows social values, attitudes, and therefore the ethical standards of an investor. Its features include the religious underpinnings of investment and the environmental governance towards sustainability. In short, it is a mixture of the desire of creating money and therefore the desire of doing good by an investor. Funds like Eventide Gilead, Parnassus Endeavor, Parnassus Mid-Cap and Vanguard FTSE Social Index have emerged as mutual funds for socially responsible investments within the united states of America (Russell 45).
Socially responsible investing with the available funds does not look promising of a return that the investor would expect in the least. The effect of this is to scuttle the performance of investors and investments. However, there is another dimension to it. The investment certainly brings better returns in the long term. This evens out any possibility of short-term hurt to performance if any. I would, therefore, invest in such funds to ensure that I make better returns in the long run (Russell 46).
A possible choice to invest is largely determined by the belief that indeed the investments should reflect values. The values should be informed by the mindfulness of the impact of an investment on the environment, customer, shareholder, supplier, and employee satisfaction as well as formulation of management-friendly policies. The companies that focus on such values as they pursue the impulse of making returns and profit are most likely to be successful in the long run.
In conclusion, the philosophy of socially responsible investment ensures that there is a proper balancing of the two desires to make money and to positively impact on the society. Effective balancing is achieved by the shifting of the focus from exclusion to the recognition of rewards for investor or corporate citizenship. The rationale is that the investors are themselves part of the society and would benefit from socially responsible investment strategies.
