Aron Ralston
Aron Ralston determined to go out alone as he had anticipated that the adventure would be as traditional and no unnatural events would take place. The fact that he had decided to go out on my own without informing anyone proves that he was certain of his skills and that he would be okay wherever he is going to be in the next eight hours. The common knowledge about the canyons in Utah is that they are slim and accidents such as the one that happened to Aron were bound to happen. However, taking a eager look into the situation, his right hand got caught on the walls by a dislodged boulder; if at all he had taken someone with him on the adventure, then the individual would have helped him get out his arm. Being alone and stranded for days meant he had to find a way to save himself (Shackleton, Caroline, and Nathan).
After Aron had amputated his arm, he went through a great multitude of depression. The latter did not help him feel any better about the sacrifice he had done to salvage himself from the dilemma situation he was caught up in Utah. However, the issue with Ralston is that he did not suffer depression immediately after the act but rather suffered the loss of his identity as an individual who had been self-reliant and as an outdoorsman. This is because he had completed the Fourteeners challenge that involved the rowing of a boat through the Grand Canyon. It is only right to say that he had managed to accomplish the aforementioned when he still had his right hand intact. He strived to be the guy he was before the occurrence of the unfortunate incidence, but everything seemed to be working against him. By 2006, the only pain he felt was not the loss of his arm that made him accomplish all that he had in the previous years but the break up with his wife. As a result of cutting his right arm to save himself which was the only move at that particular moment, he lost the identity he devoted himself to make, and the worst case was that he lost his beloved as she felt he has incomplete without his arm.

Ralston states that he still visits the place where he had been trapped. This is because he wants to remember the place that had been a turning point in the course of his life. As an effect to the situation he found himself, he now takes his friends along when he goes either rafting or climbing even though he admits he likes solitude. The good thing about what had happened to him was not merely the revolutionary changes they made in his life but rather the lessons he learned from the situation. The state made him a better man than the guy he was before the incident. He realized that his previous life had been full of entrapment, but his current one is full of freedom. Also, he keeps recalling the moment when he decided to make the move to chop his arm off as a revolutionary point. Notably, he learned the importance of relationships and how they can be used to draw strength during the times when one feels downtrodden (Shackleton, Caroline, and Nathan).
