Obesity is characterized as excessive fat accumulation in the body (Chubdari, 2015). These fats are in the form of cholesterol, which is harmful to the individual's health, particularly to children who are unable to regulate their diets. Different controversial hypotheses on the topic of parental neglect have been put in place as a major contributor to child obesity. The parent is responsible for choosing the right food for the young child, who is unable to make rational decisions about what to eat. Furthermore, parents are required to subject their children to proper exercise to mitigate the causes of obesity, which affects their future health (Paolini, 2016). The problem of obesity has been linked with psychological problems such as stress and depressions. Teenagers who are teased by their fellow friends are the most susceptible. The condition is traumatizing and alienates the child from free life. Human beings by nature are social beings if they are deprived that freedom, they can develop mental weaknesses and even result in further problems. It is important to study this topic in the field of psychology since it sheds light on the need for parents to have an oversight role on what their children eat.

Society has attached the stigma to people who are overweight. They are subjected to harassment and the society is not ready to tolerate and understand them. The psychologist argues that the effects of psychological torture are more painful. A study conducted by Paolini (2016) revealed that children who were overweight complained of the ridicule from the friends and even family members. They reported constant negative verbal words, both from the relatives and peers. Obesity is viewed as laziness and hence its association with all negative words by the people. Further, the study indicated that overweight children have negative school experience. They could not take part in sports activity freely because their body weight did not allow them. Adding to this, the peers viewed them as non-performers. Moreover, they had fewer friends in school. The study asserted that this condition lowered their self-esteem and so affected their performance negatively. Chubdari (2015) conducted a study which showed that overweight students missed school four times more compared to the healthy-weight children. This problem was related to the negative treatment they receive in school, which scares them to attend classes. Obese children opt to stay indoors to overcome the wrath of unforgiving society, which prolonged the decrease of self-esteem. The author has succinctly used the literature review to support his hypothesis. The literature selected clearly argues and support the fact that parents have the sole mandate to choose what their children eat.

One of the research method employed is experimental. According to this method, the researcher collects data from participants for analysis. The tools used are questionnaires and personal interviews. The experimental research is characterized by high data accuracy and eliminates high chances of biases (Paolini, 2016). This method is helpful especially when direct responses are needed from the people. The second method is literature study.  Some of the information is gotten through constant review of literature which has handled the topic. This method is not highly trusted as it is subject to errors since one cannot ascertain the validity of secondary information.

The society has fueled the cases associated with obesity and not aiming to cut the impacts to the victims. The upbringing of the child is core to determining his or her health. It is estimated that about 17% of children aged between 2-17 years in the world suffer from obesity (Paolini, 2016). Consequently, Center for Disease Prevention affirmed that obesity cases have doubled for the past 20 years (Chubdari, 2015). Current migration to the technology era has made children less active in physical activities which fuel chances of accumulating more calorific fats. The literature shows that the modern lifestyle is the highest contributor to the cases witnessed.
