Presenting problem
My name is Jack, and I am a 36-year-old Hispanic American. I used to work as a truck driver, and that is where my trouble started when I was engaged in a horrible accident in which two of my coworkers were severely injured. I started having nightmares two months following the accident, which made me incredibly concerned. Due to persistent arousal, dissociation, and feelings of numbness, the scenario has left me exhausted and unable to concentrate on my work. The client went through a terrible accident in which his coworkers sustained serious injuries after which he began to experience serious nightmares then it led to a lot of anxiety making him unable to carry out his duties effectively due to the frequent arousal and dissociation.
Based on DSM- Edition 5, 2013, the condition that the patient is suffering from is categorized under Trauma and Stress related disorders. The category encompasses disorders that are as a result of exposure to any form of traumatic or stressful situations. Such include disinhibited social engagement disorder, reactive attachment disorder, adjustment disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder (DSM-5, 132). These are closely related to other forms of disorders that include dissociative disorders, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders and anxiety disorders. Jack is therefore suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
PTSD is a disorder that is linked to a shocking, dangerous or scary experience that an individual has gone through (Roberts, 105). People with this disorder may experience stress or fear even when there is no sign of danger. Symptoms of the condition include flashbacks, frightening thoughts and bad dreams. These are the same symptoms being manifested by Jack hence it confirms that he is suffering from PTSD).
