Reading and Writing as Transformation
Critical thinking has helped me in developing throughout the semester considering that crucial thinking is the process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, evaluating, synthesizing, reasoning and communicating. Handling essays were difficult at past before I learned about the essential thinking concepts. My critical analysis of the articles used to be enhanced by the evaluation, synthesizing and reasoning strategies which I discovered throughout the semester. Searching for the articles in library and through the scholarly articles is one of the greatest duties which I learned and picking for the right articles to meet the necessities for the respective topics or research titles. Critical thinking useful resource my article reviews, analysis and eventually helped me improve my grammar.
At first, I thought Wikipedia is among the scholarly sources to be used as references or bibliography, but later after the critical analysis, I realized that scholarly sources could be found in the school’s libraries and the scholarly sites such as the scholarly articles, journals and books. Opening library database, log in using the student credentials, search for the course, select the subject, select either article/journal or book by title and access the content in the book. Citing the article or the book can be selected is enhanced by the citation linker which lets the student cite using referencing styles such as APA, MLA, Harvard and Chicago. The concepts helped me to put the in-texts appropriately to avoid plagiarism issues. Therefore, analyzing articles, articulating to the topics and citing appropriately are the basic critical thinking processes that helped me improve my claims in various essays.
Dialogues help to make the story or essay more interesting. At first, it was challenging to insert dialogue when writing fiction and nonfiction stories because I had less experience in connecting the concepts throughout the essay or the story. Using quotation marks correctly (“”); for example in page 61 in “Calling Home” by Jean Brandt’s “Hi, Dad, this is Jean.” Is one of the quotes which was used by Jean to explain how quotation marks can be used to provide evidence of the exact dialogue or conversation between one or more than one person (Brandt). Dialogue acts as the real evidence since the particular statement made by a certain person is added to the essay to pass the message to the audience or the readers.
Identifying purpose in an article is quite challenges especially when the analysis has less information regarding the research topic. Articles review can be simple when the writer is well-informed about the key concepts and the objectives of the article which are supposed to be reviewed. Performing more article analysis and reviews can help me continue learning more and eventually improve my articles analysis skills and articulating the concepts to meet the purposes of my essays or researches. Reading more articles written by renown authors has helped me sharpened by grammar since most of the authors of the articles in school library write flawless English since English is their first language.
In conclusion, critical thinking and transformation have been the greatest course that has helped me improve significantly as far as my writing and analysis skills are concerned. Scholarly articles selection, analyzing and citing are the key areas that enhanced my writing skills. I believe I will keep on improving since I still have some little grammatical problems.
