Reflection on General Education
I assume that having a working awareness of the cultural facets of human conduct at both the personal and social levels would be extremely useful in my chosen career direction. Throughout the different modules on criminal law that I have completed so far, I have gained a better understanding of what motivates offenders to commit a crime, as well as whether suspects are predisposed to such criminal incidents. Individual influences in the context of biological factors and social factors have also led to the advancement of criminology and victimization theories. Additionally, solutions to crime point out the need of having community policing which can only be achieved by understanding human behavior at the societal level. Crime committed by young offenders as well as increasing school violence has mainly been attributed to societal factors where in most cases the criminal offender feels as if they do not belong. Understanding the cultural dimensions of human behavior may therefore go a long way in enhancing rehabilitative measures including encouraging parents to keeping tabs on what children are exposed to as well as being role models to them (Palgrave, 2017). Social sciences gave me a rich exposure that raised my awareness on multicultural issues as well as diversity.
Social sciences provided a forum through which I was able to learn more about gender equality and how it is important to avoid discrimination of any kind in the society as all human lives have the same value. Social sciences advocate for the social enhancement of people in general aiming to provide a better future for humanity. History as part of humanities also raised my awareness on multicultural issues through an in-depth understanding of the rich diversity in different cultures surrounding our daily lives.
