The chapter discusses the duties of the female population in society

Freshman (College 1st year) ・Communications&Media ・MLA

The chapter addresses the role of women in society. It also involves the part that men play in helping women to carry out their tasks. In some cases, men spent equal hours with the ladies to accomplish these house tasks, but most of the men freed themselves from the presumption that these responsibilities belonged to the women. In the other hand, the definition should be used to explain the actor of masculinity in culture. The passage also notes that the actual domestic work of women is separate from that of the ancient world. In the current environment, ladies are applying different mechanisms of executing home errands compared to the ancient times that needed much physical labor to fulfill the required target. Nevertheless, as the economic systems have risen and faded away the scope of housework have undergone radical transformations (Davis 130). These statements can also be used in demonstrating the impact of civilization on the society. For example, there was no instance of consistency viewed in the article with the societyundergoing a series of changes and the model of executing activities. As generations passed, the female population is seen not to execute their actions as previous leaving a gap of sex recognition among the masses. Despite the fact that housework is becoming a bygone relic of history, certain societies still have the female population execute their errands using the ancient strategies. Maintaining their history has an aim of creating significance to the public.

According to the author, she targets the younger generation, creating an interpretation of the duties that needed to be executed by a particular group. However, the major claims that are being made by the author include; mode of homework execution and the duties that the male sex executed in the society. The author points out the factor that certain communities hardly accepted the context of modernization leaving their women to execute their errands using brooms, mops, dustpans, pails, aprons, stoves, and pots (Davis 130). These communities have social needs, thus the urge to reduce the primitive technical conditions and to approach the historical obsolescence. The introduction of modernity in these societies would let the native culture fade away. Adoption of another culture affects the concept of recognition with the new generation having little information about their roots.

Social, Political, and Economic Factors

The female population was obliged to execute their errands as anciently done with limited chance of adjusting to the new ways of life. On the other hand, the author elaborates that the current labor market is not similar to the current status as people are currently concentrating on modernity. Nevertheless, they hardly want to get exposed to hard labor that was often practiced in the ancient days. The current system makes the female population execute their activities in a shorter duration compared to the previous years that concentrated on a manual approach of executingtheir duties.

According to the theme applied to the document, the male population was deemed as the dominant people in society. They seem to have dictated the majority of the decisions that were being implemented in society. Therefore, the female population had a single option of being submissive to the men that issued these orders. The women were often considered as the losers with the traditional job usurped by the burgeoning factories.

Construction activities are witnessed in the passage with the women seen transporting construction materials into the Tanzanian borders. The ladies started getting involved in transformation activities with the intention of having the community attain civilization thus reducing the issues of exploitation. On the other hand, the author was demonstrating the concept of slavery that was being implemented in the female population. For example, a lady’s duties begun at a sunup and continued by firelight as long as she could hold her eyes open. In the pre-industrialized North America, the female population was considered as spinners, weavers, and seamstresses (Davis 132). They played a significant role in the acts of income generation as they helped in the process of selling their products.

Additionally, the women had the mandate of advancing industrialization in the society. The majority of the factories were being run by the female population with the domestic work suffering a systematic erosion. The entire economy shifted from the home, leaving the majority of the ladies bereft of significant economic roles. The mid-19thcentury had the factories diverted into textile, soap, and candle production. Few opportunities were witnessed with the production of bread, butter, and other food products that later achieved mass production (Davis 133).

Purpose of the Reading

The readers need to understand the importance of equality in the society. A particular group of people in an area should not be viewed as the dominant and the other as the disadvantaged. Each party should be offered the same treatment and provided with similar opportunities to express their needs. The instance of providing limited opportunities for development will generate a slow pace of civilization and modernity.

On the other hand, the passage demonstrates the history and cultural practices in the ancient times. For example, the colonial women hardly considered themselves as housekeepers or house cleaners, but wanted to be called accomplished workers in the home-based economy. Nevertheless, the reader is to interpret the duties that the female population had during that era. The ladies had an obligation to gather dry herbs that were being used as medicine and also served as doctors.

The type of income collection during this era is a critical aspect of the passage. The concept of structural separation of the public economy of capitalism and the private economy of the households has been reinforced by the obstinate primitiveness of household labor. A reader is also able to identify the amount of time that is being spent by each woman in the execution of home errands. A comparison is then made interpreting the number of activities wasbeing done in relation to the number of duties that are being executed by women of the current generation. An inverse of the results, then leads to the initiation of opportunities that would be implemented during that period if these ladies were offered an opportunity to adapt to the changing way of living.

Preferred Topics

According to the theme applied in the passage, industrialization and life after the primitive life would be a significant concern to this reading. The audience would like to interpret the type of life that the previous population would experience once they adapted to change as in that era. A sensitized community would help in the initiation of development projects, thus assisting the women to have a suitable mechanism for carrying out their errands.
