Great Britain, China, the Soviet Union, and the United States were the major allies that participated in World War 2. In order to establish a post-war world that was peaceful and free from violence, the primary goal of the Allied powers during World War 2 was to defeat the Axis powers. As a result, it was created to appear as a reaction to the global war and aggression that the Axis had started without warning. Every nation has a different vision for what the post-war world will look like. The various fascist regimes in Japan, Italy, and Germany were something Roosevelt and the United States wished to put an end to. In addition, they wanted to foster democracy across the globe. There are numerous reasons as to why the Allied powers won the World War 2 as depicted by Overy’s arguments.

Firstly, mass production by the Allied forces was one of the reasons for the victory. The Soviet Union, British and American production capacities were considered great when compared to that of the Axis powers. However, this was facilitated by the successful mobilization of United States and Soviet economies. The bombing of Germany saw the country produce less tanks, aircrafts and trucks. This in turn denied the Axis forces of crucial tools required to take part in the war. The allied powers had extensive resources. They managed to draw on the vast resources from the French and British empires. They had great agricultural and industrial output resources of the different Central Powers. Therefore, the Axis forces suffered a shortage of resources including war and food supplies. This in turn destroyed their morale and diminished their energies for taking part in the war.

Another important reason as to why the Allied powers won is the use of better military power and technology. The allied powers had the ability of producing superior ammunition as well as advanced technology development. Allies managed to produce, in surplus, highly efficient and sophisticated weapons. In addition, America had superior weapons and aircrafts that managed to successfully fight Japan and Germany. For instance, America managed to drop a nuclear bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki causing massive damage to property and loss of lives.

Allied Unity is another crucial factor that reinforced the Allies’ victory. There was a huge corporation in terms of leadership which facilitated proper decision making. The case is despite the fact that Britain, the United States and the Soviets had divergent views about the wars as well as being from different cultures. These different units were able to work collaboratively with the intention of defeating the Japanese and German forces. Research shows that the command structure of the allied forces allowed a more efficient organization of their resources as well as their ability to direct an extremely coordinated counter offensive against the allied powers. The allied commanders were able to provide a unity of purpose, leadership styles and planning. As a result, they showed a better skill in terms of coordination of armour, aircrafts operations and artillery.

I agree with Overy’s argument that use of modernized weapons led to Allied powers winning more than their counterparts because it played an intrinsic role in defeating of the Axis forces. Research shows that the main reason as to why they won was quality and quantity. There were copious amounts of equipment and weapons that outmatched and overwhelmed the Axis powers.

In conclusion, it is evident that the Allies won the war because of adequate resources, sophisticated weapons and technology as well as cooperation and proper leadership among them. They were able to defeat the Axis because they properly managed themselves facilitating proper decision making.
