Aphorisms of Christopher Breward
In the Learning Portfolio publish regarding Christopher Breward’s Aphorisms from his forward to Fashion Studies, the following two aphorism have been chosen for the explanation. First one is: “Fashion is intensely personal, in the same way that poetry is intensely personal. It is the medium through which private stories can be told, memories re-lived and future foretold.”
I absolutely agree with this aphorism, each individual has his personal style and makes his own trend explanation. It is exceptionally particular, an indistinguishable route from poetry. Everybody makes his or her remarkable trend articulation that is agreeable to him. Their demeanor depicts their character and characterizes their individual identity. Additionally, via fashion we are able to inform human emotions (for instance, sadness, happiness and grief among others), a way of life of the people, or express a phrase from a songs, stories, and arts. Fashion is an art and being an artist, you converse to people through your work- telling stories of the past, present and future. Therefore I agree with this aphorism considering fashion to be a window of communication to people.
The second chosen aphorism is: “Fashion does not define. It is instead a term that demands definition.”
This is quite true considering that fashion is something everyone can design his/her own in their daily life, a reason why there are new fashions every day and a confirmation to insatiable words to define “fashion”. The majority tend not to care about fashion, however, they make choices of what to put on in their daily life and I think that daily routine of choosing what to wear is a process of defining fashion. That means we tend to define fashion on daily basis and it varies from day to day for an individual as well as from one person to another. I totally agree with this aphorism because fashion consists of us and we are creating fashion. Without us fashion automatically loses its value and disappears.
