Robert Campin and Perugino

The classic piece titled Samia Sybl is an art work of Robert Campin, while “The Resur-rection” was created by Perugino. Both of these pieces proffer good experience of art and they represent the form of artistry available during their period of creation. Campin and Perugino tried to represent artistic skills that depict their environmental situations at they were creating their artwork, and the environmental situations at this time primarily depict the Renaissance. At the time of the Renaissance in the world of arts, artists were focused on representing the lost cultures of Europe in their works. Each part of Europe however, had specifics cultures it had lost which they wanted to revive through their art. Perugino was an Italian painter while Cam-pin had his origin from the Netherlands. There is need to point out that based on the features of their paintings. It is imperative for an audience to notice some form of distinctiveness between ‘The Resurrection’ and the ‘Samia Sybl.' Although the Renaissance period was a movement in Europe, through art, an individual can realize distinctiveness of the artwork in each nation.
The paintings revealed different religious inclinations of Netherlands and Italy during the Renaissance period. Campin's picture was a painting of Samia Sybl which is a representa-tion of priestess. On the other hand, Perugino captures the biblical resurrection story in his pic-ture. For a long time, the origin of the Catholic Church has been associated with Italy. William-son indicates that the Italian people were engrossed into the Catholic Church and there are those who viewed the Catholic Church as a government (33). Considerably, this is reflected in the ‘The Resurrection' a painting by Perugino. The theme of the picture is one of the concerns that form the basis of the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The Catholics believe in the resurrection narrative, and this is clearly depicted in Perugino’s painting. Based on the features Perugino’s painting it is clear that the artist was promoting the renaissance agenda but from an Italian perspective. On the other hand, the Netherlands is a country that embraces religious di-versity; no single religion can be regarded as the primary religion of citizens of Netherlands (Thoenes and Raphael 45). Campin’s painting also featured a priestess; this was an indication that in Campin's society has their distinct traditional religious system. The traditional religion system is based on a sound believe in the priesthood. It must be noted that Campin’s depiction of the spiritual renaissance was based on the perspective of the people's Netherlands.
The aesthetic features of these two pictures reveal a lot about the background of the painters. According to Williamson, the Roman Empire represented a lot of people because it served a huge area including places beyond its borders (14). On the other hand, there is little evidence to show any political dominance of Netherlands beyond its borders. Perugia's paint-ings featured many people while Campin’s picture has the priestess alone. Considerably, this case reflects the ideologies of these countries. Seemingly, the Italian people because of the magnitude of the then Roman Empire believed in the masses. On the other hand, the Nether-lands’ society seems not to reflect the masses’ ideology.
By looking at ‘The Resurrection” and “Samia Sybl," it is easy to discover the distinc-tiveness of the Italian and Netherland artistic values. It is important to note that in these pic-tures, the artists profoundly reflect their religious and political ideologies. Perugino's painting demonstrates the Catholic perspective of an Italian, while Campin shows the religious diversity of the Netherland community. Perugino’s painting also displays the inclusivity nature of the Roman Empire while Campin portrays the anti-masses ideology of the Netherlands.
