Literature Review on Coronary Heart Disease and Congestive Heart Failure
My Congestive Heart Failure interview questions would include:
- How old are you?
- At what age were you diagnosed with the disease?
- How did you react to the message from the physician that you were disease positive?
- What are some of the medications you have been using to help improve the condition?
- How did your family receive this information?
- How long have you been living under this condition?
- How does the condition affect you physically?
- Do you suffer from loss of appetite?
- What are some of the social challenges you face living under this condition?
- How is your diet? Do you eat junk foods regularly?
- How regularly do you do exercise?
- Do you have a family history of the disease?
- Do you experience difficulty in breathing or fatigue?
- After what types of activities do you feel much worse or better?
- Have you been diagnosed with diabetes, hypertension or coronary heart disease before?
- Do you suffer from depression or mood swings?
- What lifestyle modifications have you been asked to make?
The literature review was instrumental in helping me understand the causes, origin, symptoms and management of the disease. This helped to design the interview questions which are intended to assess pathophysiology of the disease, disease management, physical and psychosocial effects of the disease. Management of the disease is a complicated process with stringent measures to be taken regarding diet and lifestyle modification that affects the family. This creates the need to evaluate the physical and psychosocial impact of the disease on the patient and his/her family. Also, the literature review enabled me to establish the answers to some question that fellow students have always sought clarification on. The issue was: what is the distinction between coronary heart disease and congestive heart failure? Do they have the same symptoms or refer to one medical condition? As such, the literature review was instrumental in establishing the differences between these two heart-related conditions. Coronary heart disease causes blockage of the arteries which supply the heart with oxygen. The disease reduces oxygen supply to the heart which causes congestive heart failure. Therefore, coronary heart disease is a causative agent or a risk factor for developing congestive heart failure. But not otherwise.
