Addiction to internet can be outlined as an impulse control disorder not connected to any form of drug. There is quite a good number of internet users who has advanced a passionate affection to friends found online (Beranuy, Carbonell and Griffiths 2013). It is evident that many internet users are interested in all the facets that provide a platform that permit people to interact, mingle and interchange ideas via social networking online sites. According to Vernon, networking online sites is efficient in upholding friends rather than creating new friends. The paper below will evaluate my own enactment of internet friendship. The work will also discuss the extent in which it is possible to cultivate true intimacy and how the consumeristic society impact our approach to online friendship.

Beranuy, Carbonell and Griffiths (2013) outlined that most of the young people are addicted to the use of internet just as in online shopping. Due to the increase in smartphones that can easily be afforded by many teens, social interaction is increasing with time. For instance, I have found most of my new friends through online sites. Besides, social internet sites has enabled me to maintain many friends since it is easy to interact with them regardless to the distance or their respective locations. Social interacting sites comprise of Instagram and Facebook among others. The above mentioned sites has remained to be the most famous sites when many teens meet. Since I was a teen, I have made several friends through social media. However, creating new friends and maintaining them is coupled by quite a good number of disadvantages. Friendship and internet may miss a physical prompts in the social interacting sites that may result to miscommunication.

True intimacy can be cultivated online by the internet users in a way that each one will experience it as an individual. The primary reason as to why most of the individuals have shifted to internet is find intimacy (Sheer 2011). People define intimacy in different ways whereby quite a good number of people define intimacy as sex. There is a lot of intimacy that is found online whereby most of the social online sites are occupied with sexual pictures and information regarding practical sex services. In most of intimacy oriented groups, there are some internet users who interchange information that is not deliberately sexual. There some people who want to be in a relationship is not grounded on physical looks and in this case most of such internet users to overcome awkwardness and shyness.

In the contemporary world, the consumeristic society has a substantial effects on our approach to online friendship.  With the advancement of the social network, most of the internet users are connected and each and every one of them has a voice. The powerful voice by the consumers found in social sites will never be underrated. Consumers have the capacity to connect with various organizations and pinpointing any negative aspects of various organizations. Most of the online friends of a given organization use social media to express their feelings and views towards the organizational decisions (Conradie 2011).

In conclusion, the above work shows how addiction to internet has an impact on creation of friendship online. As outlined in the above work, it is somehow difficult to create new friends online. However, maintaining friends you already have can be made more effective through internet. Besides, the work above shows the true intimacy as it is outlined in the internet. Finally, the above work shows the effects that consumeristic culture have on online friends.
