While the United States can be seen as one of the most industrialized nations in the world, it is within its boundaries that a large percentage of its people live below the poverty line (Kendall, 2012). Issues and solutions Some of the goals include housing, wellness, nutrition and education for people living in poverty. As regards housing, most places in the United States are lacking affordable housing for people with low wages, which is due to the increase in housing prices (Kendall, 2012). Some of the remedies to this problem include offering free homes to the homeless, thus people living on the streets since there are approximately 24 million vacant homes in the US. Offering permanent residencies is better than short term solutions such as banning sleeping in public spaces (Gibson, 2015). The primary goal would be to secure homes for all people living in the streets.

Moreover, subsidizing housing as well as college education f can act as the magic bullet to significantly reducing extreme poverty in America for people living below the poverty due to low-income levels. Concerning the subsidization of education especially college and university education, this would ensure that poor people are exposed to the same opportunities as the upper class which would give them a chance to change their circumstances as such subsidies would go a long way in motivating such students. Through subsidization, the primary objective would be to offer both housing and education at low costs making them affordable to people with extremely low-income levels. To solve the problem of healthcare and nutrition some of the remedies would be to reform the food and healthcare programs available today. For example, in the case of healthcare, this would include making health care insurances affordable and accessible to all individuals with low incomes.

As a taxpayer with average income, this plan would have a significant effect on me, as to subsidize education and housing, taxpayers with average and high income, as well as corporations, would be required to pay higher taxes to enable subsidization.

Is Racism based on White Privilege?

Racism is teaching things that are not entirely based on facts and seeking to maintain the dominance by using negative language or behavior towards the targeted individuals (Elliot, 2015). According to Jen Dzuira, this belief has resulted in a situation whereby white people get perks other races are not afforded such as attracting less suspicion from law enforcement and employers.

Dzuira supports her position through real-life examples such as the case in of Jonathan Ferrell, who was killed by police officers when he sought their help after a car accident (Dzuira, 2013). The unfortunate incident is a reflection of the negativity associated with black people since such cases involving white people are rare. Dzuira points out that it can also occur unknowingly, such as when she complained to a black colleague about police harassment (Dzuira, 2013).

A naysayer can, however, argue that, though there have been glaring injustices done on people of color in America by the white race; it does not represent the attitude of the whole community. While white people may get a few advantages owing to their race, there are still many opportunities in America that are open to people of all races. Some of the fatal confrontations with police can be due to panic on the officers’ part and not prejudice as it would seem in some of these cases.
