The acrobatic performace of gymnasts
I attended an acrobatic art show and it featured many gymnastic elements just like the circus; a place where skilled performers walk on a tight rope hanging from a high platform. It was entertaining to watch the diving and the ballet dancing which were described as athletic activities by Gibson and Marshall (2016). I have only been able to see these acrobatics in pictures and writings. One, for instance, that caught my attention was the aerial type where the performer was spining and twisting in the air while balacing on a rope. These performers would hang on a string while dancing vigorously. Performing arts are done by artists who use their entire body including their face, body and their presence as the art medium. This performance included an acrobat who directly used his body to communicate to the audience (Myers 56). The aerial type was significant to the visitors, as it kept them agile throughout the show, while the hand and tightrope walking helped the performers in motor coordination. Acrobatic is related to any other performing art, as it included the audience, stage director manager, costumes among others. More so it was played on stage, involving all the non-verbal cues, used by the performers’ namely body movement, gestures among others, as outlined by Myers (59).
The aerial acrobat made me question the kind of flexibility some people have. Viewing someone suspended on a rope and yet performing was debatable. The art was amusing though implausible; how can someone constantly hang on a string and actively perform without getting tired? All in all, the reality hit me that what is recorded about the acrobats is true and is presented by real people, not cartoons as I had imagined.
