The Khufu pyramid is normally referred to as the Great Pyramid of Giza. The pyramid was constructed as a tomb for Pharaoh Khufu. It is believed to have been built in a duration of 10 to 20 years that ended at around 2560 BC. It is additionally known to be the biggest and oldest of the three pyramids found at the Giza Necropolis in Cairo, Egypt. Its class has had it named as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The architecture of the pyramid is great and many researchers including Egyptologists have tried to recognize it. This paper will create an insight into the pyramid and appear into some of the theories that attempt to give an explanation for its architecture.

According to the interactive presentation, the pyramid has been estimated to weigh about 5.9 million tonnes. Its interior hillock has also been approximated to measure an approximate of 2,500,000 cubic meters. As mentioned above, it took 10-20 years to complete the pyramid. Building such a structure could have required the buildings to install approximately 800 tonnes of stone daily. Moreover, they needed to do so in utmost precision measurements. This is according to findings by Sir Flinders on The Pyramids and Temples of Gizeh. The precision measurements have exuded a lot of interest from architects and researchers through the years. Based on the presentation, the measurements revealed that there were openings of joints that were the only 1/5th of an inch wide. These are achievements that are quite complex to explain hence the numerous theories to explain the architectural design and mechanisms (Hoeks 6-10).

Construction Theories

Given the failed understanding of the actual architectural designs, various theories have emerged. The most accepted theories are based on the idea that the builders constructed the structure by moving huge stones from a quarry. These stones would be then be dragged to the location, lifted, and fitted into place. The major question is how the perfection was achieved and what methods and techniques were used. There are also of questions of the kind of workforce that was employed.

In the past, some theories held that the workforce consisted of slaves. Modern researchers including Egyptologists have established that the workforce was actually made up of skilled workers that were organized into different hierarchies according to skills. They further established that the skilled laborers worked for a salary or as a form of tax payment. The workforce is thought to have consisted of 100,000 men who were divided to what was referred to as zaa or phyle consisting of 20,000 men each. This would explain the mathematical and design skill.

The mystery that remains is the method used in the construction. According to John Romer, the architects of the pyramid could have employed methods that had been used for earlier and later constructions. He believes that developing a 1 to 1 scale plan could have led the architects into perfect measurements and designs. I believe this is the most reasonable method that could have enabled the architects to build such a structure with precision (Laurent 3-8).

Conclusion

For over 3,800 years the pyramid of Giza stood as the tallest man made structure in the world. Given the age of the building, the architectural prowess is quite unmatched. The accuracy of the structure has been found to have a mean error of only 58 millimeters in length. To date, explanations into how such accuracy was achieved will continue to remain speculations.
