The Secret Life of Boys 2017 movie analysis Boys and girls, for the most part, have different ways of communicating their feelings. Girls seem to be better suited to expressing their feelings than their male counterparts, mainly because boys are taught to be tough. Specifically, the element of masculinity plays a significant role in how boys convey their emotions (The Representation Project n.p). This paper focuses on the study of boys' secret lives, which shows the difficulties that boys face due to a lack of successful ways of expressing themselves. Also, this paper will include my contributions. In addition, this paper will also entails my reaction to the basket ball player, Lee Mazzili`s experience with his son, the experiences that I have had that have helped to shape my beliefs, as well as how I believe concerning my socialization regarding gender and expression of feelings.
Dr. William Pollack`s arguments
I do concur with Dr. William Pollack`s arguments concerning the socialization of boys and ways that parents can embrace in order to help them to express themselves. Most parents and the society as whole encourage girls to express their feelings claiming that by doing so, they may feel relieved and manage to carry on with live or overcome the challenging situation (Dr. William n.p). In order to reveal the extent to which the girls are encouraged to express their feelings, the ‘Bic Pens for Women’ has been introduced in the United States (The Ellen Show n.p). Apparently, none of the same measures has been implemented to the boy-child. In contrast, boys are highly stigmatized by expressing their feelings, and this has been negatively affecting the psychological wellbeing of boys. Most of the boys who were interviewed in this video revealed that they usually feel that no one is there to console them especially when they encounter challenging situations. Their parents and the society always inform them to be manly, rather than consoling them. Most of the young boys usually think of committing suicide often, due to lack of parental and societal support on how they should express their feelings.
My reaction to the baseball player, Lee Mazzilli’s experience with his son
Mr. Mazzilli`s son is just of the numerous cases that are present in the contemporary society. Most parents believe that the boy child is deemed to always be boys. Precisely, most parents believe that it is normal for boys to prefer to do their own activities as opposed to talking over the phone (Dr. William n.p). Apparently, due to lack of effective ways of expressive themselves, they turn to be violent and do badly in their academic performances as opposed to their female counterparts.
The experience I have had that have helped me to shape my beliefs
I remember the time that I was welcoming my adolescent stage. This stage greatly affected my social life, especially with my parents, to the extent that I was even contemplating on how I would run away from home. Apparently, my parents called for the services of a counselor, who helped me to express my feelings. From this time, I do believe that parents needs to encourage their children, both boys and girls, to express their feelings.
How I believe that my own socialization regarding gender and the expression of feelings
As a parent, I will focus on giving my children an equal ways of expressing their feelings, and this would help in saving a nine. In addition, I will also be pushing for parents in the society to be helping their children to express themselves.
