A lot of concerns are involved in this case. The first issue is what is considered a threat to familiarity because Quanella is working with a friend who takes advantage of the relationship to abstain from her duties by taking breaks against the rules during working hours, possibly because she knows that the friend will not report her to the authorities. The second issue is that Quanella's friend does not value her role or the organization's rules under which she works, her attitude is a don't care and even though the friend informs her of the grievances, she is not concerned about it at all. The other problem in this case is that there is lack of policy guidelines on how work should be done and how employees need to conduct themselves at the workplace. Through this policy, employees like Quanella’s friend could not abscond their duties because the policy would direct them accordingly on what to do and what not do. In addition, there is a need for organization culture that nurtures good work ethics and motivates employees to work whole heartedly.
In a nut shell, the problems in this case are as a result of a lack in policy directive towards work ethics and it is why employees can afford to take breaks that are not accepted. To sole this, a policy directive would the magic.
