1. The issue with Framton Nuttel
Mr. Fraction Nuttel suffers from a neurological condition that causes him to be highly excited by things that would not normally excite a mentally healthy person. He suffers from reclusiveness as was evidenced by his statement that his wife had drafted letters to people in Mrs. Sappleton’s locale citing Mr. Nuttel’s arrival and his curious temperament. Moreover, Mrs. Sappleton called him an extraordinary man. This mental illness can be proven by the fact that Nuttel himself said that he had seen a doctor and that the doctor had advised him to avoid mental and physical excitement so as to recover.
2. Why the young girl distresses Framton
The young girl distresses Framton due to her youthful energy. Nuttel obviously hates a lot of excitement. That is the reason why Nuttel was disturbed to watch the Mrs. Suppleton’s nice move about the room with her youthful vigor. Moreover, the niece lied to Nuttel about the disappearance of Mr. Suppleton and his sons seeing that Nuttel was vulnerable to believe such a make-believe story.
3. How things happen in the short story
Nuttel came to visit Mrs. Suppleton who was to help him calm down his mind by directing him to the country life. However, Nuttel had the unpleasant chance of meeting her self-possessed niece who played his disturbed predisposition. After taking the niece’s bait, Nuttel upon seeing Mr. Suppleton flees the scene.
4. The climax
The climax of the story reaches a point when Mr. Suppleton, flanked by his two sons and his spaniel. Upon seeing them, Nuttel flees the scene and all the other characters make a commentary about that curious occurrence.
