Critical Analysis of Article on Religion
A people's faith plays a significant role in its society. As such, literature that is aimed at providing insight into how religion influences other facets of life is critically analysed as humanity (Woodlock, R., Loewenstein, A., Caro, J. and Smart, 1). Ethnicity refers to distinctive features that depend on cultural traditions, distinctions and viewpoints of a community of people. Ethnics are primarily based on religion, ancestry, language, culture and the shape of clothing. Ethnicity, not biological, is hereditary. For starters, a country like the United States has strikingly different characteristics from different parts of the world. Religion for most of the time has always advocated for pluralism which is whereby people of all race and ethnicity remain discrete but have social equity among themselves. For long, pluralism has been difficult to attain since some people simply hate others because they are different.
According to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, he looked forward to a point in time where people would drop their different opinions on ethnicity and racism and become as one as the religion advocates. He had realized that this problem was taking root in Alabama. For a country or region to be able to move upward and mostly develop economically, people should be able to collate with each other despite the different opinions and beliefs on racism and ethnicity. Apparently, most of the times when groups from different racial, religious and ethnic differences came together, there was a high possibility of one group challenging the other, Mainly to cement their dominance over the other group. Unfortunately, with dominance follows subordination (Hamilton, 695). This is what many people especially the religious group are advocating against. If one group of people are dominant over the other, the subdued group will be forced to become subservient. According to an article Doesn't religion cause most of the conflict in the world? Several aspects of human life are affected and influenced by religion.
Employment
According to an article, published in the guardian unemployment in regions such as the USA has been associated with continuing racism. It has been evident over the recent centuries. White people are most likely to get employment than other people of different ethnic backgrounds. For many years, the white people have been considered to be dominant. According to Hamilton and William (2003), less than two-thirds of people belonging to the minorities are at work as compared to the three-quarters of white people. The article compares the advantages the white people have over the blacks. Religion advocates that people regardless of their race or opinions on ethnicity should have equal opportunities especially in getting jobs. It also advocates that selection for jobs should not be dependent on various factors as well as not favor specific groups of people over others.
Justice
Since the time of the Romans, justice has not been fair to some certain groups of people. This trend has passed on from generation to generation. In recent centuries, justice has been in favor of whites. Religion has tried to create fairness through the legislature in many countries. It has been on the front row in supporting and mainstreaming the justice system worldwide. For instance, the author Pamela Duncan in her article points out that black people in the United Kingdom, are most likely to be arrested as compared to the whites. Statistics according to her, prove that a black person is three times as likely to be arrested as compared to a white person. The articles Doesn't religion cause most of the conflict in the world? brings to lights how over time, there has been a streamline in conservativism and preservation of religious purity.
Occupation
The occupation has been a problem in various countries. When people from different ethnic groups try to live and collate together, issues could arise which in turn, create problems for either both sides. According to the article Doesn't religion cause most of the conflict in the world? people with backgrounds from India and white British are more likely to own a home as compared to half of the people from the black community. Religion has advocated through the various scriptures for people to live together and view each other as brothers and sisters. It will, in turn, ensure that people despite their differences create an environment of harmony and understanding. Furthermore, when people collate with each other, people tend to share their different values with other. People can learn different ideas from the other group. For instance, people can share business ideas and enter into partnerships. People living and understanding each other despite their differences is the most appropriate way to ensure the development of a country, it will not make a person become a lesser-person if he or she accommodate the other person. It is of importance that people live by the biblical rule of seeing each other as neighbors as well as brothers and sisters.
