Employer-employee communication is very important as it tool for team building in most companies. In our company, we this tool (Employer-employee conversations) as well, we organize meet-ups, where we get to share our workplace experiences, difficulties, proffer viable solutions for the various issues discussed. To a large extent, the use of this tool (Employer-employee conversations), have had a good impact on us as employees. This is so, since we get to share our on the job and off the job experiences on a one-to-one basis. However, one issue negatively impacts on the whole process; the disclosure of private concerns. Most employees have the feeling that disclosing personal concerns to others is an intrusion of one’s privacy. In other instances, they share non-truths which end up defeating the overall purpose of the process.
Hence even though the process might be in good faith, the issue of sharing private matters should be approached in a way that employees do not feel obliged to share private matters. The fact that this information is later shared in annual meeting further exposes employees to public ridicule and even humiliation. This is because even though no names are called out, most people know who is being referred to in these meetings. However, given the employer-employee relationship, most people are afraid to speak up to explain why they should not be compelled to provide private information during such meetings. Thus it should be noted that even though most employees might feel that their privacy is being infringed on employees may not necessitate entirely removing this section of the exercise but making it more appealing.
