The lively and energized Will Traynor is struck by a motorcycle in a book by Jojo Moyes in the heart of fantastic life just as he boards a taxi (Jojo 92). He was made a quadriplegic by the crash. He loses mobility, his girlfriend and his former flashy lifestyle, who used to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, walk in exotic locations such as the Yosemite cliffs and recreate Mauritius. Two years down, along with someone for every step he wanted to take, he had to undergo several trips to his physician and physiotherapy sessions. He eventually schedules an appointment with Dignitas in Switzerland to put an end to his miserable life
Louisa Clark, a waitress recently rendered jobless, is employed by Camilla Traynor to be Will's caregiver. She accidentally learns of Will's plans to have an end to his life, and she goes all the way to ensure that Will has a reason to live again

Their relationship which started off as hate gradually transformed to like and finally to love. Louisa fell in love with Will, and they together plan a holiday getaway to Mauritius. Louisa confesses her love for him on the eve of returning home. She believes that if Will gives their love a chance, then they might just live happily after that. Will Traynor also makes a confession that all along he has had plans to end his life. Will Traynor points that he will just be a burden to those who love him. Will Traynor acknowledges that there is something special between them, but he still intends to follow through with his intentions. Angry Louisa doesn't approve of the decision especially now that she went all the way to show Will that life was worth living again. They do not talk for the rest of the trip back home, and she hands in her resignation to the Traynors upon returning home.
Will is visited by Louisa one last time just before leaving for Switzerland. They both agree that their time together had been the best it could ever have been but his sacrifice is necessary. Will dies shortly after arriving in Switzerland and leaves Louisa a considerable amount of fortune. The theme of self-sacrifice runs throughout the novel as Will Traynor agrees to end his life instead of seeing others suffer because of his pain.
