A population pyramid is a diagram that depicts the distribution of various age groups within a population. It's also known as an age pyramid or a photograph of a person's age. A population pyramid portrays a clear picture of how a countries transition from high fertility to low fertility rates and vice versa. The shape of the population pyramid may also depend on the region or country under consideration. However, many pyramids can be defined as stationary, expansive, or constructive. A pyramid can be termed as stationary when the population remains constant over a period, meaning that the rate of birth equals the death rate. An expansive pyramid is wide at the younger ages, and it is characteristic of countries with high birthrates and low life expectancy. A constrictive pyramid is generally narrow at the bottom, and it depicts the population of countries with a low death rate and birthrate.
