The most feared terrorist attack in the United States occurred on September 11, 2001. Al-Qaeda, a religious extremist group, was responsible for hijacking four planes and using them to carry out the attack. Two of the planes hit the World Trade Center, while the other two struck the Pentagon and a Pennsylvania field separately. The coordinated attacks killed over 3,000 people, making it the deadliest attack in the country's history. Under the leadership of Osama bin Laden, Al-Qaeda was founded in the 1980s. The group is dedicated to removing American influence from Middle Eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia. The religious cult believes that the presence of the Americans in their land is a corruption of their morals through the introduction of a foreign culture. Al-Qaeda thought that the attack would communicate to the Americans that their presence in Middle East countries is not welcome. However, most of the missions of the United States in the countries is to facilitate peacekeeping missions in regions where militant groups threaten the respective governments in the country.

Al-Qaeda perceives the presence of the Americans as a violation of their rights. The religious group, under the leadership of Osama bin Laden, views the United States as a spiritual enemy that requires elimination. The ideologies of the group are that fighting the Americans is a holy war. To them, dying in the war is an act of heroism that will lead to eternal life in paradise. The attacks of 9/11 were a symbol of the dedication of the group in fighting for their country and religion. Al-Qaeda believes that other faiths are their enemies. Their ideologies push them into thinking that they have to fight back for their religious freedom by converting other people to Islam. The cult perceives anyone who does not support them as an enemy. The cultic beliefs in the group make them believe that they are the only group fighting the religious war. The massive recruitment of new members into the group using such ideologies represents the growing influence of the group especially in the countries in the Middle East. The 9/11 attacks represented their biggest achievement in communicating their goals and intentions.

The general perception of the group is very misleading. The group claims to fight a religious war in support of Islam. However, the 9/11 attacks did not distinguish between the Christians and the Islam. The attack killed people from all religious backgrounds. It is impossible to claim that a group is fighting for Islam then kill people from the same Islamic religion. Secondly, Islam is a religion of peace [1]. The Quran advocates for peaceful coexistence between people. More so, Islam reiterates the sanctity of life and at no point does Islam call for the murder of individuals due to religious differences. Al-Qaeda is a religious cult that does not value human life. The group considers people with different views as enemies and eliminates them through attacks such as those from 9/11. The Jihad indicated by the Quran speaks about a spiritual fight where a believer fights spiritual challenges to keep his or her faith strong. Killing people to inherit eternal life in paradise is a misleading ideology of the cult. Al-Qaeda does not support any religious beliefs; instead, the leaders corrupt the morals of the followers to make them easier to control. The suicide bombers used to crash the planes think that they died fighting a religious war but the truth is that they died fulfilling the desires of their leader Osama bin Laden.
